2017. What a year, for lots of reasons. Just in case you've been hiding under a rock for the past half a century, it so happens that it's also the fiftieth anniversary of a legendary moment in European football.
2017 marks 50 years since Celtic, with team captain Billy McNeill at the helm, sailed to a legendary victory against Inter Milan in the European Cup in Lisbon 1967. And Lawn Legends can't let that slip by without a nod to the football legend.
Billy's recent struggle with Alzheimer's has been highlighted in recent news articles, and it was Greenock born actor Martin Compston, who is a big fan of Glasgow Celtic, who collaborated with Alternative Merchandise to make the Billy McNeill edition from Lawn Legends happen.
Martin was quoted as saying "It’s long before my time, but it’s an image which is imprinted in my head and from a selfish point of view, I wanted to have Billy McNeill in my garden holding the European Cup.
“Lisbon wasn’t just the biggest moment in Celtic’s history, but also one of the biggest moments in Scottish sporting history. It’s our tribute to that.
So in our way of acknowledging that true sporting great, and indeed the passion and commitment of fans like Martin, Lawn Legends from Alternative Merchandise will make a contribution from the sale price of every Billy McNeill figure to Alzheimer's Scotland, with the full co-operation of Billy's family.
